Customisation - Flexible Customisation and Interfacing to Other Systems

Packaged software delivers many important benefits, not least of which is the replacement of bespoke, bank-specific developments with easier to support, standardised enhancements. However, if the underlying software application has not been carefully designed, this approach can lead to a rapid commodisation of process and procedures and ultimately limit the bank's ability to successfully differentiate itself from its competition.

With over two decades experience working with hundreds of market leading banks worldwide, Misys recognises this challenge and has designed Equation to provide maximum flexibility without compromising the benefits of packaged software.

It All Starts with Data

Relational databases are inherently flexible when it comes to storing data. However, there is little point in putting data into the database if it can't be used, and that's why, in addition to the detailed descriptions of 'standard' Equation data, we provide facilities to extend the database. Additional, bank-specific information, can be captured at transaction, deal, customer, account and branch levels.

Tailoring the Process Flow

With Equation's User Exit functionality the bank can execute external routines during the normal running of standard Equation programs. These routines, developed by the bank, are automatically executed, and once complete, control is returned to Equation. For more complex needs, the Integrators Technical Package provides the bank with all the facilities it needs to develop applications with the same 'look and feel' as standard Equation programs. The ITP includes detailed documentation and training on how to use database definitions, technical descriptions, skeleton programs, standard service routines and a set of guidelines for application development. Once applications are created using these guidelines, they are automatically protected during version upgrades.

Connecting to External Systems

Equation's middleware component combines a replication module that is used to extract data for use in other systems with data transformation and message handling facilities to further integrate Equation with pre-existing systems. With this system, the bank can extract information from Equation, and pass it, in the format required, to other systems. Additionally the Equation APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) can be used to handle data input from other sources. Data input into the system this way is treated in exactly the same manner as other Equation data, in that it is automatically included in system journals and is therefore covered by Equation's recovery facilities.

Code Development

Misys provides a bespoke development service, where enhancements are created at our product centres. Carried out by the Equation development teams these enhancements follow our rigorous standards which ensure quality from design and coding to testing and packaging. And because we've developed them, from start to finish, they form part of the standard product.
